Abney Unearthed talk at Hackney Archives
Funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Hackney Council, Abney Unearthed is an exciting project to remap the cemetery and discover more about the people buried there. The project manger is giving a talk to introduce the exhibition and explain why the project is so vital.

The world’s first municipal fire service was founded in Edinburgh in 1824 and it was lead by James Braidwood. Who was this relatively unknown Scot who recruited and trained a team of fire fighters, and created a science in fire-fighting methods. Why has he been forgotten? We invite you to Diana’s talk to learn about him and why he should be remembered and honoured.

Remembrance Sunday
Join us on Sunday 10th November at 10.15am at the War Memorial in Abney Park Cemetery, where local artists will perform music and poetry to commemorate Remembrance Sunday.
Christmas community stall
We’ll be holding one final community stall this year this December. Join us on Saturday 3rd December from 11am onwards near the High Street entrance to the park, where the path splits into three.
Remembrance Sunday
Join us on Sunday 13th November at 10.15am at the War Memorial in Abney Park Cemetery, where local artists will perform music and poetry to commemorate Remembrance Sunday. The ceremony will combine traditional elements of a Remembrance Sunday ceremony, with a variety of music – including classical music, and peace songs from different traditions sung by two local choirs.
Coronation Avenue - 81st anniversary commemoration
This year marks the 81st anniversary of the Coronation Avenue bombing of 1940, which is commemorated by our Civilian War Memorial.
