Abney Park reopens visitor centre ahead of its 181st Anniversary
Working in partnership with Hackney Council, the Trust has reopened the doors to its South Lodge shop and visitor centre as pandemic restrictions begin to ease.

The Williams sarcophagus repair is now complete
Abney Park Trust is pleased to announce that the works to restore the lid of the slate sarcophagus for William Williams, near the Church St entrance, have now been completed by Orbis Conservation.
Improvement work set to start in March

Ever wondered who was first buried in Abney Park?
On the grey Tuesday morning of 2 June 1840, Rev’d James Mather (b. 1775) was the first person to be laid to rest in Abney Park Cemetery. James Mather was a Congregationalist Minister at the Upper Clapton Chapel. The second burial, on 7 June 1840, was that of 16 year old Susannah, who lived at 6 Stoke Newington High St.

Temporary closure of the visitor centre and cancellation of events and services
Following government advice, Abney Park Trust has reluctantly decided to cancel or postpone all our upcoming events, close our visitor centre and suspend grave searches. The safety of our dedicated staff and loyal visitors is our top priority so we believe that this is the right thing to do in these challenging circumstances. We greatly appreciate everyone’s support and hope to welcome you back soon.
