The Last Tours of Abney Chapel: Abney's History with Alan Gartrell

  • Abney Park Trust Stoke Newington High Street London, England, N16 0LH United Kingdom (map)

Location: Abney Park
Date: Saturday 12 June 1 -2 pm

In preparation for the restoration works inside Abney Park Chapel, Abney Park Trust will be hosting guided tours of the park with a focus on the history of the Chapel.

After 14 June 2021 Abney Park Chapel will be out of bounds for events until it is fully restored. This is a landmark moment in history as the chapel has been in its current state for many years. We at Abney Park Trust therefore want to offer this once in a lifetime opportunity to step inside the chapel before it changes forever.

Abney’s History

Tour host Alan Gartrell will give a broad explanation of Abney's history within its Victorian context and explain why the chapel is such a significant statement for everything that Abney Park Cemetery stands for.

Join us for your last chance to witness the sublime, derelict beauty for yourself.

Biography

Alan Gartrell has given talks at Abney Park on a regular basis for many years. He is a Stoke Newington local who modestly declares that he is not a historian, but simply a few clicks ahead on Wikipedia of everyone else.
