Monthly History Highlights Tour with Sam Perrin

  • Abney Park Trust Stoke Newington High Street London, England, N16 0LH United Kingdom (map)

Sam Perrin's history tour of Abney Park Cemetery:

Occurring on the first Sunday of every month and led by historian Sam Perrin, the tour focuses on Abney Park's uniqueness – from its diverse permanent residents to the striking funerary architecture, as well as its historic dual function as both burial ground and arboretum since it opened in 1840.

The "middle child" of London's Magnificent Seven cemeteries, Abney Park has traditionally been the final resting place of choice for rebellious, radical and dissenting Londoners. Our general history tour quietly celebrates that spirit in this wonderful community-focused green space.

From the Stoke Newington High Street entrance, please meet at the end of the pedestrian walkway - where the path splits into three.

The tour will last around 90mins.
Please arrive 5 minutes early for the 2pm start.
Please wear suitably sturdy footwear and bring an umbrella (you never know).
There are no toilet facilities available.

Speaker bio:

Sam Perrin has been researching and leading tours of historic cemeteries for nearly 20 years and holds an MA in Victorian Studies (Birkbeck, University of London). She hopes to pursue a PhD in funerary studies in 2023 and has delivered talks for the National Archives, Museums Show-Off, Camden History Society, Dickens Fellowship and the Museum of London.
