The Enchanted Cinema - Monsters and Magic

  • Abney Park Trust Stoke Newington High Street London, England, N16 0LH United Kingdom (map)

We are delighted to continue our collaboration with The Enchanted Cinema & Film London at the Delph Room, Abney Park Cemetery.

On Sat 8th Nov, we invite all ages to become a pop-up orchestra with The Enchanted Cinema’s interactive show- Monsters & Magic featuring Lotte Reiniger’s exquisitely-crafted The Adventures of Prince Achmed (1926), the oldest animated feature ever made! Led by a professional musician, you’ll use your voice, hands and feet, and then instruments and ingenious foley FX, to create a magical one of a kind soundtrack to on-screen works from this incomparable animator.

We start with a warm-up to magically transform ourselves into our favourite mythical creature before kids and grown-ups team up with instruments - piano, charango, lyre harp, chimes, gongs, turtle drums and more - to create a live score to the iconic Flying Horse, Wizards’ Battle and other scenes from Prince Achmed. We invite all mythical creatures and wizards up at the end to try out instruments. To keep the magic alive, we ask that everyone keeps phones in bags.

15.00 – The Adventures of Prince Achmed (Interactive Cinema Event – All Ages)

16.15 – join us at the front to try out instruments.

17.00 - end

Please feel free to dress inspired by the Monsters & Magic title!

Please note - we kindly request shoes to be left at entrance.
