The Enchanted Cinema

  • Abney Park Trust Stoke Newington High Street London, England, N16 0LH United Kingdom (map)

We are delighted to launch a new collaboration with The Enchanted Cinema in the Delph Room.

On July 6th, we invite all ages to go wild with The Enchanted Cinema’s interactive show – Ghibli’s Forest, featuring Where the Wild Things Are (the 1973 animation) and scenes from Studio Ghibli’s breath-taking The Red Turtle (2016).

We start with a warm-up climb into the forest canopy using our hands and voices before kids and grown-ups team up with instruments – turtle drums, lyre harp, zaphir chimes, gong, bird flutes, ocarinas and bamboo canes – to create a live score to the mysterious island and inhabitants that Max encounters (including your narrating of the book), followed by stunning scenes from The Red Turtle‘s island beach and forest, again accompanied by you— our very own pop-up orchestra.

We also invite all ticket-holders to celebrate our launch with our Garden Band & a special performance by multi-instrumentalist Kieron Chissik from The Enchanted Cinema on viola, guitar, keyboard & immersive sound instruments, accompanying a visual tapestry of underwater footage and graphic illustrations.

3 - 4.15 - Where the Wild Things Are & The Red Turtle (Interactive Cinema Event – All Ages)

4.15 - try out instruments.

4.30 - celebrating our launch with our Live Garden Band & solo live cinema piece.

6.30 - end.
