We invite you to the shores of Sicily for the intrigue, drama, wit and wisdom of Much Ado About Nothing. Join us in the garden next to the community room for open air theatre - families welcome, age recommendation 8+.
It’s the 1960s, and change is in the air. On a sun-drenched island steeped in tradition, the old order is about to be shaken up by a new spirit of liberation, as our thoroughly modern heroine, Beatrice, determined not to be ‘overmastered’. With original music inspired by everything from Sicilian Tarantella to 1960s Italian pop, this bold production of one of Shakespeare’s best-loved comedies is not to be missed.
FAQs
What time can we arrive?
You can arrive at the performance space from 5.30 pm to take your seats and purchase refreshments from the cafe. You are welcome to arrive earlier to enjoy our magnificent nature reserve. Come and picnic before the show (on the grass alongside the path leading from the High Street entrance is the closest). There is not enough space to accommodate picnics in the performance area itself.
Please arrive at the Stoke Newington High Street entrance to Abney Park (level access) and follow the path directly ahead, the performance area will be signposted to your right..
Should I bring a seat?
No need! We'll provide a mixture of chairs, rugs and cushions for audience members to use. (The advantage of the rugs and cushions is that you're more likely to get a space at the front!). Feel free to bring your own cushion for the folding chairs we are providing. There will be spaces on our patio area reserved for wheelchair access/those with limited mobility and some wider chairs with armrests available if needed. Please email us at info@abneypark.org to let us know your access needs in advance and we will ensure we do our best to accommodate them.
Will there be food and drink?
You can buy food and drink before the show and in the interval at the newly-opened cafe, right next to the performance area. The cafe toilets will be available before the show and during the interval, including accessible facilities.
Can I bring my dog?
Guide/assistance dogs are welcome.
What happens if it rains?
Rain doesn’t stop us! Come prepared by packing a waterproof (no umbrellas during performances please as they obstruct views). We’ll ONLY cancel performances if the weather becomes dangerous. Prepare for a hot day by bringing sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses. Bring a coat too in case it gets chilly when the sun sets.
