Everyone is welcome to experience Altar for free. Join us in the daytime to explore this specially curated, interactive art trail of secular memorial shrines. A secular treat for Halloween and a lovely half term walk in 31 acres of woodland with opportunities to craft messages and photos of loved ones onto the community shrine.
Altar will be created with 10 artists, set designers and YOUR ancestors. Whose life will you honour? Who’s life has shaped you? We want to include them - bring messages, quotes and photos to add, with opportunities for a printing booth for crafting for all ages, and family activities and a map available for children to explore Abney Park. See www.projectaltar.com for more details.
Book your free tickets here or drop in on the day. Please note that non-ticket holders may need to wait to access the Chapel, if this space is at capacity, so booking ahead is recommended.
Whatever your faith, whether you were born 1000 years ago or yesterday, we have more in common than divides us. This isn't about death. It's about life, love, loss, joy - the human experiences that unite us. Altar aims to amplify the voices of the unheard, in this case those we have lost.
Dogs welcome in the park in the daytime and on leads in the chapel. On-site cafe serving amazing food until 4pm daily.
Access information: level access at our High Street entrance, ramp access at our Church Street entrance. The Chapel and cafe have level access and accessible facilities, including baby changing. Service dogs on leads welcome, free tickets for carers accompanying disabled ticket holders.
