John McShane
Trustee
John McShane and his family has benefited from being able to be close to nature and local history in Abney Park, in ways that have made living in Hackney a unique and uplifting experience. Becoming a Trustee has been a way to give something back in return.
John has lived and worked in London from 1985 and I he has been based in Hackney for the last 20 years or so. He is a qualified social worker and has been a manager of local authority social care services.
John has recently taken early retirement to become a carer for his youngest son, who has complex health needs.
Most of John’s career has been in services for disabled children and their families. He has also worked in adult social care, safeguarding and services integrated with health and education. His last job was as a senior manager in a multi-agency Special Education Needs (SEN) service.
John brings experience and knowledge of staff management, Human Resources processes, working for diverse communities, Local Authority systems, collaborative working, policy development and service delivery.
On most Thursday mornings John is part of the Landscaping Volunteers - wood chipping and clearing undergrowth – which he finds great fun.
