A Natural History of Moths

Come along and hear Matthew Gandy introduce some of the cultural and scientific aspects to moths ranging from themes such as mimicry and literary representations to recent concerns with light pollution and mass invertebrate decline.  We will also consider some of the amazing moths to be found in Abney Park and other sites in Hackney.

Matthew is Professor of Geography at the University of Cambridge and an award-winning documentary film maker.  His books include Moth (Reaktion, 2016) and Natura urbana: ecological constellations in urban space (MIT Press, 2022).  He has a website devoted to moths and other insects: http://lepidopteragallery.org/

The event will be free.
