RSPB Birdwatch survey with the ecology group

  • Abney Park Trust Stoke Newington High Street London, England, N16 0LH United Kingdom (map)

Join Abney Park's ecology group on a walk around Abney Park, to complete the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch survey. Come and discover the variety of birdlife here at Abney Park, and take part in this national survey of the birds of Britain, an annual RSPB event. Learn how to identify the birds you encounter and, if you have your own garden, you can go on to do your own birdwatch survey at home. Please bring your own binoculars if you have them and meet at 9.50am at the High Street entrance.

Across the UK, over 600,000 people took part in Big Garden Birdwatch 2024, counting a whopping 9.7 million birds! House Sparrows took the top spot, but counts of these chirpy birds are down by 60% compared to the first Birdwatch in 1979. In fact, we’ve lost 38 million birds from UK skies in the last 60 years. With birds facing so many challenges, it’s more important than ever to get involved in the Birdwatch. Every bird you do – or don’t – count will give us a valuable insight into how garden birds are faring.

Access information: The High Street entrance has level access, next to the cafe which has automatic doors and accessible facilities. The Church Street entrance has ramp access. This walk will be along the main paths, which are wheelchair accessible.
