Abney Park Soil Séance Sessions

  • Abney Park Trust Stoke Newington High Street London, England, N16 0LH United Kingdom (map)

Come and spend some time listening to the soil at Abney Park. The ground is often overlooked as it is overtrodden, but what would it be like to commune with the ground? To turn you senses downwards, using an electrical device as a portal to the underworld.

For centuries people across the planet have buried their dead, indeed the very origin of the word human might refer to being of the earth. Many people believe our ancestors live on, in the earth. What if soil is not just dirt but a medium?

Soils have a genesis and a life span. They originate from rocks transformed over millennia by climate conditions, geological movements, biological processes, and the actions of organisms, at all scales. Soils are the product of highly complex relationships, They are both living and non-living.

This is an invitation to spend as short or as long a time as you please listening to the noises from the earth. The sessions are offered on a one-to-one basis across the seasons, as sound levels have seasonal as well as daily variations. It may be quiet, it may be loud, as we tune into the frequencies communicating beneath our feet. Please meet at the Stoke Newington High Street entrance to Abney Park.
