Abney Park Trust is looking for new trustees.

Abney Park Trust is an independent registered charity with the mission of promoting Abney’s unique history, architecture and ecology, bringing these things to life, connecting with local people and working with Hackney Council and other local groups. Please see here for more about us.

Sadly three of our current trustees are standing down, so we are looking to add to our team of hard working, practically minded trustees.

If you are interested in finding out more about us please click here; and if you want to know more about what being a trustee involves, please click here.

Who can apply

Anyone who is over the aged of 18 can apply to be a trustee. It isn’t necessary to have been a charity trustee before.

We welcome applications from everyone who lives close enough to Abney to attend meetings in person and support events we hold at Abney.

We particularly welcome applications from all faith groups, black and global majority candidates and people living with disability. If you have access requirements or reasonable adjustments to be made to support your application, please let us know.

We would also be very interested in applications from people aged 18-25; if you are interested in using some of your spare time to build your skills in a small charity environment, we’d love to hear from you.

What experience is needed

We appreciate that if you are under 26, you are looking to build your skills, and all we ask is that your bring your enthusiasm and love of Abney to the table. We will pair you with an experienced trustee and make sure you get the support you need.

Otherwise, we are looking for trustees who have experience in the following areas:

· Income generation: we’d love to hear from people who have experience finding grant makers that fund small charities and grant writing, and from people who know how to secure support and sponsorship from commercial partners; we would like to appoint a trustee who can lead a small group of trustees on the planning and implementation of a new income generation strategy.

· IT skills: we want to extend how our website and other digital resources can be better managed and made available to communicate and celebrate Abney’s history, architecture and ecology.

· Ecology: Abney was Hackney’s first local nature reserve and a site of importance for nature conservation (SINC). Its delicate balance is under threat from climate change and increasing use and we need greater ecology experience among our trustees to support our work in this area.

We would also love to hear from anyone who has a passion for putting on community events.
