Chair's update: March
Tom Walker, Chair
Hello everyone,
January and February tend to be slightly quieter months for us. There are fewer events and the cemetery opening hours are much reduced. This year that is compounded by a little bit of slippage on the restoration work and continued uncertainty for us.
We are working closely with Hackney Council to negotiate our role in the future. Very soon we will have access to premises and be able to be back on site properly, for the first time since three years ago. It is amazing that the Trust has kept going through all this uncertainty. But we are close to breaking even again this year.
If you follow local events on social media you will have seen a planning application for new digital signage on the pavement outside the High Street entrance. It looks ridiculous and spoils the historic setting. The Trust will be objecting to the planning application. If you would like to support this please object too.
The planning application is here.
Finally, I wanted to pay tribute to Alison Bean who has been our Treasurer for the last four years. She is standing down this month. She has transformed the way we manage our budgets and has made an enormous contribution to the Trust. You can see our financial history here. THANK YOU Alison!
