Donate for our London Marathon Runners

Abney Park Trust are delighted to have runners in the London Marathon on April 28th to fundraise for our memorial restoration projects. We would like to thank Jim Grice and William Deamer who have both generously agreed to run for us. The restoration projects were voted for by visitors at our last Fayre and include cleaning the large Celtic cross at Abney House corner, or repairing the broken sarcophagus near the Church St entrance. Read further news for their bios and donation links. Please support our runners - we appreciate their energy and wish them luck!

Jim Grice

Jim is a journalist and lecturer who has lived in the area for more than 20 years and was a trustee for the original Stoke Newington Festival. He is a keen runner, and has completed a dozen half marathons, but this is the first time he has taken on the full 26.2 miles. Jim is looking forward to the challenge (mostly!), and also hopefully raising a decent amount of money for Abney Park Trust to help preserve its history and keep it as a public asset for all Stokey residents to continue to enjoy.

William Deamer

“Abney Park was the first community gem that I visited when I moved from Preston to London and I’ve visited regularly since. What Abney has shown me is the importance of these places in the community, especially when moving to a new one. Seeing what this kind of place means to local users, and visitor’s from afar - I’d love to help to protect and preserve what I can, how I can.”
