Superb Canadian-born UK based trumpet player Jay Phelps celebrates the vast repertoire and incredible, enduring impact of Jazz’s most enduring star - Miles Davis.
A Miles at 100 celebration in the beautiful and intimate surrounds of the restored Chapel of North London's Abney Park Cemetery. Jay Phelps is one of the leading trumpet players and band leaders on the UK scene. He has performed with some of the world’s top artists; including Wynton Marsalis, Shabaka Hutchings and Amy Winehouse. Throughout his diverse career he has always championed the music of one of his great musical heroes - Miles Davis. Jay regularly plays sold-out shows across the UK, playing Miles' classic Kind Of Blue album in full. Most recently, he co-starred in the brilliant sold-out theatre show “Miles” at the Southwark Playhouse. Jay will play a selection of classic music associated with Miles - and tell some stories to accompany them.
Miles Davis was born in May 1926. Throughout an incredible 45-year career he re-invented jazz time after time, always embracing the progressive music of the era and always refusing to stand still. The impact he had on music, way beyond jazz, is still hugely present today as generation after generation discovers his greatness.
