Chapel Open Morning

  • Abney Park Trust Stoke Newington High Street London, England, N16 0LH United Kingdom (map)

Join us on Sunday 6 September for an opportunity to view inside the recently restored Chapel. If you just want to see the inside of the Chapel, please feel free to drop in at any time between 11:00 and 13:00.

In addition at midday, Abney Park Trust are hosting a talk about the incredible work of Abney Unearthed. Abney Unearthed is a huge remapping exercise for the cemetery, which involved many dedicated volunteers over the last 7 years painstakingly mapping, checking and correcting the cemetery records, finding lost information and researching the stories of some of those buried here in Abney.

On 4 October, as part of celebrating Black History month, our noon talk will look at the life and times of JJ Fuller. Born into an enslaved family in Jamaica in 1825, Joseph Fuller was a powerful orator and committed minister, who worked as a missionary in Cameroon for over 40 years before settling in Stoke Newington. He is buried here, in Abney, near the High Street entrance and while we know where his grave is, there is no marker.

Because Abney can get quite muddy we would request no dogs in the chapel.
Toilets and baby changing facilities available.

Access Information:
Service dogs on leads are welcome.
Accompanying carers welcome.
There is ramp access at Church Street entrance, there is level access at the Stoke Newington High Street entrance.
The ground floor of the Chapel is fully accessible and there are accessible toilets available onsite.

This event is free - donations to support the work of Abney Park Trust are welcome.
