During an artists’ residency at Abney Park, Lynn Dennison worked with volunteers to get behind the scenes to explore the idea of life amongst the dead. In particular she explored the natural world and wildlife making their homes amidst this high Gothic Victoriana, and the people involved in the care of these living elements. In Arthur Machen’s book ‘N’, which is set locally to Abney Park, he describes the urban scene dissolving to reveal a beautiful other worldly garden, and ‘A Matter of Life and Death’ is built around this construct of the proximity of other worlds.
