"They who go down to the sea in ships"
Join Abney Unearthed for this newly revised tour based on research into the 200,000+ people buried in the cemetery. This tour has been researched by Abney Unearthed volunteer Alison Palmer, who will be your guide on the day.
For many the sea has a draw that entices them to take to ships for work, necessary travel or pleasure. Several headstones at Abney Park commemorate these people who have not returned – and some who have. This tour tells of the ships they boarded and some of the diverse, and often treacherous, journeys they made.
