Abney Park's Duelling Wizards with Sam Perrin

Date: Thursday 17 Dec 2020 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM GMT
Location: Online

Abney Park Trust is delighted to host Sam Perrin's online talk, which will include a presentation and live Q&A session.

Sam Perrin is thrilled to share her research on the life of Abney's own Wizard of the South, Barnardo (a.k.a Barney) Eagle, whose rivalry with Professor Anderson (the famed Wizard of the North) makes today's celebrity Twitter spats pale into insignificance.

The event will also mark the 214th birthday of Barnardo Eagle!

Their battleground was the newspapers of the day and no holds were barred as both conjurers puffed themselves up in preparation for a "top hats at dawn'' moment in the form of a wizard-off. Yes, you read that correctly... a Wizard-Off! The talk will include some of the often hilarious threats from one magician to the other, as well as examine magic's enormous popularity in the nineteenth century until Barney's dramatic finale in 1858
