Virtual Gothic Tour with Hackney Tours

Location: Online
Redux with a live Q&A session

Abney Park Trust will be streaming our Virtual Gothic Tour for a second time with an additional live Q&A session with host Simon from Hackney Tours.

Take an after-dark historical tour of the sinister side of 19th Century London as we go back in time to the era of the Gothic novel, the heart of Victorian darkness. Afterwards you will have the opportunity to interact with the Host, Simon of Hackney tours in a live Q&A session. In this you will be able to share your observations and feelings on the idea of the Gothic of Victorian times – and the many parallels with today. Are fears over populism, technological change and fake news a modern malaise or themes as old as Frankenstein and the French Revolution? What's your take?

Two centuries after the publication of Frankenstein, it remains as powerful a story as ever. What were the fears and anxieties of the 1800s that inspired this celebrated tale of science gone wrong?

What was lurking in the shadows of society that bled out onto the pages of works like Mary Shelley's classic tale of technology and ambition gone hideously wrong? And how does this link to a long Hackney heritage of nonconformism and the contemporary era of fake news?

The host Simon of Hackney Tours will help you see Abney Park - and London - in a different way.

The Tour will stop by the graves of many of the interesting people laid to rest in Abney Park Cemetery. In doing this Simon will investigate how each person’s life touches upon the societal ailments of the Victorian period, whilst reflecting on the similarities they have with our own time.

Please note refunds are only possible up to 7 days in advance.
