Join us for an exclusive spring evening in Abney Park’s recently renovated Grade II listed chapel to celebrate the park’s 184th birthday.
Enjoy a complimentary prosecco (or soft drink), a short talk on the chapel’s history, an exhibition of photographs and a chance to mingle and explore this historic building.
Book in advance here.
The first foundation stone of the chapel was laid by the Lord Mayor of London Sir Chapman Marshall on the 20th of May 1840, the day of the opening ceremony of Abney Park Cemetery. The chapel is the oldest surviving non-denominational chapel in Europe, and is the only surviving public building designed by William Hosking.
Tickets are £15 per person. Abney Park Trust is the registered charity behind the community life of Abney Park. Our purpose is to bring Abney Park to life so together we can benefit and learn from the park’s unique wildlife, biodiversity and rich cultural heritage. But we need your support: we’re reliant on the help of Abney fans and local residents like you to help us remain sustainable.
We’ve recently received some National Lottery Heritage Fund support via the council as part of the renovation, but this will only cover a small part of our costs. We employ two members of staff, run heritage, ecology and community events, and perform grave searches for families and loved ones of those buried in the park - among much else. Joining us for this reception is a great way to give back to the park while also meeting new people, having a drink and exploring the gem that is the chapel.
