Take a pre-dusk tour of the sinister side of 19th Century London.
In this historical tour just before dark, we’ll go back in time to the era of the Gothic novel. How do fears over populism, technological change and fake news connect with today?
Two centuries after the publication of Mary Shelley’s ground breaking sci-fi novel Frankenstein, it feels as relevant as ever. But what were the concerns and anxieties of 1800s London that inspired tales like this celebrated story of science gone wrong?
As the night approaches and the light wanes in this atmospheric location, see what lurked in the shadows of Victorian society, bleeding out onto the pages of works like this and Dracula. We'll explore how it connects to Hackney's rich heritage of nonconformism, our contemporary era of disinformation and worries over the Artificial Intelligence future.
What is the new Gothic? Perhaps the old Gothic never really left us...
