Trustee (HR and management lead) sought for Abney Park

Are you passionate about Abney Park? Have you thought about joining the Trust team?

Abney Park Trust aims to protect and promote the site, provide education, recreation and leisure opportunities and balance these needs with local community involvement through transparent management.

Abney Park Trust is at a pivotal stage in its development and has an exciting vision for the future. The Trust is currently developing a new strategy and business plan, as well as potentially supporting the park’s redevelopment should Hackney Council be successful in gaining National Lottery Heritage Funding.

The Trust employs two part time members of staff to run its operations, and we are currently looking to specifically recruit a new Trustee who has particular experience in HR and employment matters, as well as office and line management experience, to take on a lead role in staff management at the Trust.

In addition to attending regular Board meetings, overseeing the good governance of the Trust and assisting in the development of the business strategy and planning, the Trustee in this role would be expected to:

  • Line manage the Trust's two part-time members of staff: the Trust Manager and Volunteer Co-ordinator and the Trust Projects Assistant.

  • Hold regular Ops meetings with the Trust Manager and Volunteer Co-ordinator, deal with  queries, providing assistance and support, as well as help manage their workload.

  • Carry out employment reviews of staff and manage staff pay and benefits.

  • Ensure that our volunteer and employment policies and contracts are robust and kept up to date.

This position would suit someone with experience of HR practices and management, looking for a volunteering opportunity where they can really make an impact on the way the Trust is run. The ideal candidate would be relatively local to the area or be prepared to travel to us and able to regularly devote up to seven hours a week to the work of the Trust.

If you are interested in this volunteer position, please email: info@abneypark.org with 'Potential Staff Manager Trustee' in the subject line, include your CV, and explain why you are interested in this role, briefly outlining any relevant experience and the skills and qualities you can bring to this role on the Board.

Please apply by Friday 10 January 2020.

If your application is accepted we will arrange a mutually convenient time for a meeting where we can explain more about the role and the process and learn more about each other.

If you don't think this is the right opportunity for you now, but would like to join our band of volunteers who help marshal theatre events, in the visitor centre and shop, on an ad hoc basis on the Trust stall at events, or weekly landscaping volunteering, please get in touch with 'Volunteer' in the subject line of your email.

We look forward to hearing from you!
