27 species of bird spotted during RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch

The Abney Ecology Group met in Abney Park on 28th January to take part in the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch.

Four teams surveyed for an hour each and we recorded 27 species, which were: Feral Pigeon, Blackbird, Blackcap, Blue Tit, Carrion Crow, Chiffchaff, Coal Tit, Dunnock, Goldcrest, Goldfinch ,Great Spotted Woodpecker, Great Tit, Green Woodpecker, Jay, Long-tailed Tit, Magpie, Mallard ,Redwing, Ring-necked Parakeet, Robin, Rock Dove, Song Thrush, Sparrowhawk, Stock Dove, Tawny Owl, Woodpigeon and Wren.

The ecology volunteers group will be undertaking a range of surveys over the year, in addition to regular get-togethers for various wildlife-related activities. These are open to people with all levels of interest, skills and abilities and there will be opportunities for training.
