Abney Park is a rich habitat for birdlife. The park is a designated Local Nature Reserve, one of 141 listed in Greater London.

We think it is so important to open up and share our appreciation of the nature on our doorsteps in this magical urban woodland.

We want to build up our understanding of the birds visitors can see and hear. Woodland and garden favourites are easy to see in abundance most days. Rarer sightings such as tawny owl, sparrowhawk, redwings and firecrests have all been reported recently.

Birds are easier to see in January and February, while the trees are still bare – so now is a great time to get out, especially on clear early mornings when the birdsong is so loud. So whether you’re an expert or a beginner birder, please share sightings with us via @abneyparkN16 or info@abneypark.org and we will credit you.
