Chair's update: April

Tom Walker, Chair

Work on the new stained glass windows in the Abney Park Chapel is well underway.

Significant and visible work on the restoration project continues. Visitors will have seen the trenching work for services to the chapel being laid. I was lucky to have a tour of the chapel last week and to see the skilful and careful craftmanship involved in restoring the fittings. Being on the scaffold rig up to the ceiling of the chapel was quite something.

We held a fun (but chillier than hoped) community stall on 27th March. Thanks to all those who stopped by to see us. Hopefully this email reaches those new names for the mailing list.

One project we are developing is a programme of monument restoration. There are twelve listed monuments in the Park, many in need of cleaning and/or repair. We have submitted a bid for grant funding. Even if this is not successful we will develop the project further and look for alternative sources. If anyone is interested in this project, please get in touch on info@abneypark.org.

As well as our ongoing events, including the brilliant dawn chorus walks, we are planning a fuller open day on May 21st. May 20th marks the 182 anniversary of the cemetery opening.

Volunteering opportunities continue across a range of activities. Being out in the open and helping keep the park well cared for is a fantastic community contribution. Learn more here.

Thank you for your ongoing support.
