Irena has lived in Stoke Newington since the mid 1980s and has loved having Abney Park on her doorstep. It has always been an inspiring retreat a short step away from the bustle of London, and one that she wants to help preserve and develop. Covid and lockdown back in 2020 reinforced the importance of this space to everyone in the community.

Irena's professional experience has been as an events manager running large scale events for organisations as diverse as the Royal Mail, Dept. of Health and numerous professional membership bodies. She has very much enjoyed bringing her 30+ years of event management experience to a local organisation, to help them develop an exciting events programme that benefits the local community, and to mentor others to help them develop their own event management skills.

A trustee since September 2017, Irena has greatly enjoyed working on the spring and autumn fayres, Abney Park Trust's biggest fundraising events, which supported the development of the online events programme through lockdown. She hopes that in 2023 Abney will return to a wider events and outreach programme.
