Donated map takes pride of place

The original framed artwork of Abney Park's site map donated by 'Of Cabbages  Kings' shop  takes pride of place in the visitor's centre and shop. The artwork by local artist John Gosler features on maps and leaflets and remains very popular after over 20 years in continual use.

Sheila Taylor, Chair of the Trust explained "we can't thank 'Of Cabbages and Kings' enough for generously donating this important piece of Abney Park's history. It will enable us to put it on display for everyone to admire, and we've included a plaque to recognise this kind gesture".

The donation followed the online auction of original artwork by 'Of Cabbages of Kings' in aid of Abney Park in June. The auction offered two original artworks commemorating the Stoke Newington Midsummer Festivals of the mid nineties also designed by John Gosler. There was a flurry of activity at the end of the silent auction that raised £260.

If you missed the auction through, there is still a chance to buy limited numbers of artist signed copies of both the map and festival posters from 'Of Cabbages and Kings' . You can get these from their shop in Stoke Newington High Street, or online.

The auction proceeds have helped bolster the fund set up to to restore Isaac Watts memorial and replace his stolen hand. This is part of an ongoing programme of events to raise the £9,000 needed to pay for the work.

A big thank you to all the staff at Of Cabbages and Kings, in particular Jessica Widdows and Natalie Selles, as well as everyone who took part in the auction.....not of course forgetting our congratulations to the winner!
